Airbnb does have a gym filter, but it mixes private home gyms with the shared gym in an apartment block or resort. We read the listings and looked at the photos to keep only whole homes with a real gym room of their own. These are the ten we would book first, from a glass-walled villa above Lake Wakatipu to a hilltop house in the Costa Rican jungle.

Before you book
Before you book, ask the host for a list of the equipment, because a gym can mean anything from a full weights rack to one treadmill. It is also worth asking whether the gym room has air conditioning, especially in the tropics.
How we chose: we searched every continent for Airbnbs with a gym, kept only whole homes rated 4.85 or higher whose photos show the gym, and picked the ten we would most like to stay in, at a range of prices. Nobody paid to be on this list.
