Lots of rentals have a bath, but most are a plain tub tucked under the shower. We searched Airbnb's hidden bathtub filter on every continent and kept only whole homes where the bath is the best seat in the house: freestanding, outdoors, or set right in front of a view. These are the ten we would book first, from a bamboo villa above Bali's rice terraces to a cliff-top house in Asturias.

It has three bedrooms, a fireplace in the living room and a deck with a wood-fired hot tub. The road up is rough, so you need a 4x4 or a high-clearance car, or the host's shuttle.

Before you book, ask the host whether an outdoor bath has reliable hot water in every season, and how long it takes to fill. If the bath is open to the air, it is also worth asking how private it is from neighbours and paths.

How we chose: we searched every continent for Airbnbs with a bathtub, kept only whole homes rated 4.85 or higher whose photos show the bathtub, and picked the ten we would most like to stay in, at a range of prices. Nobody paid to be on this list.
